[Hepper (1976) p. 47:] "For dropsy both under the skin and in the abdomen the natives boil the root with some grains-of-Paradise (Guinea pepper) [Aframomum]; for drinking and for external application the root is ground fine with some grains-of-Paradise and a little water and rubbed over the whole body. For gonorrhea virulenta
the root is finely broken up and placed in pytto or palm-wine which is put aside to become sour and then is used for promoting urine. In absence of string the natives use the stems for binding fire wood and such like. - Source
